Backup
A business can survive the loss of hardware, the damage and the
destruction of hardware. But if a business is hit with data loss, the
loss may be so disastrous that it may not recover. Data can consist of
months if not years of man hours, and at times data is so unique that
once it is lost it can never be replicated. For this reason data is the
most valuable item in a business and therefore keeping it safe and
secure is of the highest priority.
Data backup is the procedure involved in copying data to another medium for storage until it is needed at a later date. The data stored should be identical to the source data. The backup can be retrieved at anytime to restore the old backup files in case the existing files are not available for any reason, e.g. accidental deletions.
